Mason is a corporate associate in Novara’s Tokyo and New York offices (Novara Advisory Partners Law Firm Joint Enterprise). Educated at Emory University School of Law, he has over eight years’ experience as a corporate lawyer qualified in the United States, and practiced at King & Spalding prior to joining Novara. Mason has extensive experience advising on public and private mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments, energy & infrastructure investments, and U.S. corporate, securities, and regulatory work. He recently completed a two-year secondment as in-house counsel to a major Japanese trading and investment house in Tokyo, advising on multi-billion-dollar energy-transition projects across LNG, ammonia, and hydrogen. Mason’s practice focuses primarily on domestic and cross-border M&A in the U.S. and Japan with particular strength across the energy, real estate, and financial institutions sectors.

MASON’S EXPERIENCE INCLUDES ADVISING:

  • A major Japanese trading house on its equity investment in a large LNG project in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with a total project value in excess of USD 10 billion.

  • A major Japanese trading house on its equity participation and project financing of a world-scale clean ammonia facility in the UAE, targeting one million tons per year of low-carbon ammonia production.

  • A U.S.-listed multifamily REIT on its USD 5.8 billion all-cash acquisition by a major global real estate investment platform.

  • A U.S.-listed fitness company in the successful defense of a hostile takeover attempt.

  • A U.S.-listed public REIT on its approximately USD 1 billion stock-for-stock merger with a larger listed REIT.

  • A U.S. regional banking group on a series of bank and wealth-management acquisitions, including its approximately USD 500 million acquisition of a listed community bank.

  • A well-known U.S. hospitality and lifestyle brand on its strategic equity investment and recapitalization with a private equity sponsor, valued in excess of USD 300 million.

  • Cross-border M&A, private equity, and capital-markets transactions across the energy, real estate, financial institutions, and technology sectors, with particular focus on outbound Japan investment.
